Deanna Durbin is my all time favorite actress of the 1940’s. Her first movie was “3 Smart Girls” in 1936. She made 21 movies, all black and white except one, “Can’t Help Singing”. Her co-stars included, Gene Kelly, Tom Drake, Robert Cummings, Pat O’Brien, Franchot Tone, Vincent Price, Dick Haymes, Robert Stack (who gave Deanna her first screen kiss) Helen Parrish, Charles Laughton, Ray Milland and MANY more!
By age 21, she was the highest paid female movie star in the world! She and Mickey Rooney won the Juvenile Award in 1939 and she also has a star on the Walk of Fame.
Her last movie was “For the Love of Mary” in 1948 and retired at the young age of 28 and moved to Paris wanting to live a simple life. She is still living there at the age of 86.
